BarreConcept comes to Edinburgh
Barre is one of the biggest fitness trends of 2015 and now you can try it as well.
You’ve done ballet as a little girl, loved the Black Swan movie, you enjoy dance shows or simply seek a new challenge? BarreConcept is the answer.
The origins of barre workouts have their roots in the Lotte Berk Method, a Jewish ballet dancer who fled to London in the 30’s.
This unique workout combines the elements of ballet, Pilates, yoga, and resistance training into a highly effective regime performed on the mat and at a ballet barre. The technique utilises the body’s own resistance in conjunction with weights, bands and small balls.
The low impact, total body workout lifts the butt, tones the thighs, flattens the abs and sculpts the arms, whilst protecting the joints. Small isometric contractions are performed and integrated with an interval training approach that burns fat and improves cardiovascular fitness. Posture, flexibility, stamina and core strength improve. The result is a body that is realigned, rebalanced and works harmoniously and efficiently.
The non-stop nature of the workout builds stamina and endurance and provides the cardio element needed to burn fat and lose weight. Muscles are worked to fatigue through full range of motion, followed by end range isometric contractions and then a static hold. Stretches for the fatigued muscle groups are done immediately afterwards, to keep the muscles long and lean. The high energy music makes the workout fun and enjoyable.
From Pilates and yoga enthusiasts to gym bunnies as well as dancers there is something in this workout to satisfy everybody.
