Anu is an experienced acupuncturist providing acupuncture treatments in the West end of Edinburgh. She graduated from the Northern College of Acupuncture in York in 2007 and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council which is the UK’s professional body for the practice of traditional acupuncture.
Her treatment approach includes acupuncture, acupressure massage, tuina (a Chinese massage done fully clothed), cupping (suction cups placed on skin to help blood flow – who can forget the pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow with her backless dress!), and moxibustion (a form of heat therapy using the herb moxa over the skin). She also provides dietary and lifestyle advice to allow individuals to optimise and maintain the beneficial effects of their treatment.
As traditional acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms, it can be effective for a wide range of conditions from physical to emotional. Therefore, Anu treats all kinds of health issues and adopts a relaxed, gentle and holistic approach whilst trying to get to the root of the issue.
Anu is interested in pain management, enhancing overall well-being, fertility issues, pregnancy and women’s health. These interests developed from her patients who have taught her a lot by sharing their experiences. Additionally she is interested in the role that traditional Chinese medicine plays in complementing western medicine.
Anu has also trained in facial revitalisation acupuncture which is also referred to as facial acupuncture or cosmetic acupuncture. This is gaining popularity and is a safe and effective way to help reduce the signs of the ageing process and bring life into the face by improving skin texture and colouring, increasing elasticity, reducing wrinkles and overall rejuvenation.
Anu is also a qualified dietitian and has worked in the NHS as a clinical dietitian where she gained experience in various specialities. She has also worked as a research dietitian at the University of Edinburgh for six years.
Anu loves to learn and apply her learning to her clinical work. She regularly attends courses, conferences and workshops to keep her up to date and ensure her brain keeps ticking.
Anu works at Alva St on a Thursday and you can contact her on 07515431070 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org
